In the digital age, we all have first-handedly seen the news move from paper onto a screen, and from the radio onto a stream. However, current affairs are only a fraction of what went digital, meaning that the impact of journalism and thought-through arguments is now diluted amongst friend requests and sponsored ads. Consequently, reporting has become a click-oriented business, causing sensationalism that ultimately plays into the cards of swiftly growing political movements, the Arab Spring and UKIP alike. This Panel will debate the future of democracy in a society where information culture impacts voter behavior, away from fact-based rational politicking to emotionally appealing agendas. It shall explore the dangers of a generation that has lost the connection to politics and does not realize its full potential to shape the political landscape that acts in its best interests.
